A significant donation to club coffers arrives as a reward for reaching our Centenary...
Stephen Swann, Honorary Treasurer, was delighted to open the letters he had received this morning. Despite the gloom of seeing the credit card bills, phone bill & bank statements, a handful of letters did stand out as being odd.
Three of the letters contained cheques and Centenary Dinner slips... the start of the masses applying for their tickets. However, it was the final letter that brought the delight.
The envelope contained a large cheque FROM the Northern Bank. The cheque covers an advert in the forthcoming history book - Short Corners, Long Memories. But it also included a significant sum which will cover the entire cost of the EAHC v Ulster Branch President's XI match.
Pitch hire for 7 hours as well as a post-match reception for 50 people in the Chimney Corner certainly mounts up... but the news of Northern Bank's sponsorship of the event means that existing Club funds can be diverted towards the running of the Club through the Centenary season.
"It just gets better and better..." said 1st XI Captain, Alan Burgess. "With the professional approach that Paul Cooke will bring to the event; the fact we are playing back in our home borough; the fact that the cost to the Club is virtually nil; the fact that we will be wearing our new kit for the first time... I just don't know what to say."
Club Chairman, Jim Strange, did know what to say, however. "Thank you very much Northern Bank. This is the final piece in the jigsaw for this forthcoming event and I know every Club member cannot wait for the day to arrive."
Hopefully the day will live up to the organisation that has gone INTO it so far.
