As the first XI season already gets into motion the second XI season looks set to begin this weekend. As it is our first 2nds match of the season I want to just talk a bit about our aims for the coming season. firstly we are now in Junior 7, not a league that we really want to be in as we are better than that, but with a bad season behind us last year and a totally new team we have high ambitions this year. My main aim this year being captain is to gain promotion with the team into junior 6, to do this we need commitment as a team, turning up to training, doing a little bit extra in your own time and mainly putting 110% in on a Saturday. This year we don’t have as many members as we would like to have but the team that we do have has shown that we can play some attractive hockey. I am in no doubt that if we play the way that we are training that promotion is a realistic target. The first match was supposed to be against Kilkeel on saturday past but they couldn’t get a team out, result our first points on the board. I would urge all members of the club to try and bring as many friends as possible who are interested in playing hockey to training on a tuesday. Even if they don’t think that they are good at hockey bring them along as that is what training is all about, developing fitness and skills. Lastly I just want to say that good luck to all for the season ahead and I look forward to my first match as 2nd XI captain.
