Year in Review
2006 was a topsy-turvy year. Plenty of goals on the pitch (at both ends of the pitch mind you) and plenty of activity of it.
Fund raising events were to the fore with 3 online games (predicting the results of the Six Nations, World Cup and Champions League) and a Night at the Races.
Night at the Races (Feb)
The Club Dinner saw the awards being dished out for the 2005-2006 season as such:
Willie Irvine Trophy (Clubman of the year): Alan Burgess
Robert Artt Trophy (Player of the year): Andrew Bell
1st XI Player of the year: Andrew Bell
2nd XI Player of the year: Phil Brown
Stephen Swann Trophy (Young Player of the year):Alan Russell
The Alexander Trophy (Most Improved Player): Tom Russell
The Ulster Junior squad had a strong representation from the Club with David Caldwell, Neal Hermon, Paul Fraser and Leon Currie all earning caps. Neal Hermon, in fact, captained the squad!
In May, the 1st team competed in and won the Antrim Sixes scoring 5 goals in the final!
By the end of the year, however, the Club lost some of its more influential players: Neal Hermon, David Menaul and Eddie Baird left and were soon joined by David Caldwell.
Taking up the challenge of captaining the 1st team, however, was George Tumilson. A new sense of optimism and fun has been injected into the squad even if the lack of experience means results don’t look too clever.
No doubt the team will get stronger in the coming weeks and months under George’s stewardship.
There is plenty to be optimistic about so... Merry Christmas everyone and hears looking forward to a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
