Coach Appointed...

East Antrim Hockey Club today announced the appointment of a 1st team coach for the 2004-2005 season. Gavin Weir will assume coaching duties for the Glengormley based Club after 12 years playing top flight hockey for Mossley Hockey Club.

Gavin, who’s playing career at the Glade has been cut short by a serious back injury, will be responsible for the development of the 1st XI squad, the development of the team as a whole and ultimately, ensuring success for the 1st XI in accordance with the Club’s development plan.

East Antrim Hockey Club may be Gavin’s first foray into coaching, but in his playing days he has worked with various coaches including both Irish Under-18 coach Stephen Watt and Irish Assistant Coach Neil Cooke, and the Club are more than delighted to have someone of his experience at their disposal.

Club Chairman, Jim Strange, was enthusiastic about the appointment: "We had offers from many coaches from around the world, but Gavin’s local knowledge of the game and his enthusiasm for the task ahead swung the selection process his way. We are confident that he can help us achieve our goals."
