Match Report

By 3rd XI Captain

The thirds were out in force for the first match of the centenary year. Holiday hopefuls Peter McStea and Peter Riddell ably supported veteran stalwarts such as Ivan and the Beek, retired Disco queen Neal Hermon, and the ever faithful Dinger Bell, Michael Gordon, Neil Johnston and David Menaul.

I will not bore you with too much detail except to say that we did not manage to convert any of the first four short corners. Prortadown made some good counter attacks and their "Tiny Tim" achieved some frightening forays into the D. It must be said that rock solid defence by Beek, playing in his new roll as sweeper saved the day on a number of occasions.

On the down side it has become apparent that undercutting the ball from frees has become the new way to give the ball to the opposition without any effort such as passing to them!!

Two goals were to come in the last ten minutes of the half, the first from Peter Riddell following a classic cross from Hermon and the second a face saver from Leon who had previously passed the ball to the keeper in fromt of an open goal.

The second half was marred by fog that made visibility extremely dubious, however it did not stop the team achieving another two goals.

My thanks to Ken Skelton and Rambo for umpiring.
