Match Report

By George Tumilson

Sorry for the late match report but unfortunately I have been occupied over the last few days... anyway on to the action...

East traveled to Newry on Saturday with only 11 men despite the 1stXI not having a game which was disappointing to see as we do have many dedicated players. With a strong lineup I hoped for points and a good performance from the mighty green army. As always my team mates did not disappoint...

East took the lead through an up coming star in the form of Kris Leslie, a delicate deflection saw him beat the Newry goal tender. Newry Responded well with 2 goals of their own which came more from us switching off than them playing well. Again the legend that is Kris Leslie stepped forward just before the half way mark to send the teams in at half time level pegged.

Believing we now had the momentum to carry on pressing the Newry defence East where left venerable at the back and once again were punished, leeking 2 soft goals early in the 2nd half. Believing myself that this game was going to go wrong side up in the second half I must admit I switched off only to be reawakened by Kris Leslie’s third goal of the match lifting the team yet again to new heights. The forwards hadn’t done much damage this match and it was time to spring into action, but it was not the experienced players that done the damage but the youngest player on the forward line that left the fans stunned as East pulled level with an excellent push past the Newry keeper from young Alan Russell. 4-4 and still pushing for the win in the last 2 minutes of play East always looked the better side.

Although we only drew this match I think a win for the Green machine would have been far more justified. Well played everyone and I do hope to see performances like this carried on throughout the rest of the season.
