Match Report

By George Tumilson

Start of a new year and a chance for a fresh start. East started the game well, a defensive error gave Michael Mckenna the first chance of the game on goal but a push in the back and a questionable decision by the portrush umpire lead to a port hit out.

The next 2 goals of the game were unfortunately not in east’s favor. East’s first goal came from east antrims most experienced forward Michael Mckenna, a great touch to beat the portrush keeper. Another 3 goals later saw east 4-1 down at half time.

The 2nd half was a different story for east. Although portrush did have the first 2 goals in the 2nd half Michael opened the scoring for east with a fantastic shot from the top of the circle. The next goal did come from the port team but it was to be their last. A patient build up in play brought about east’s third goal which was slipped past the port keeper by a brilliant first touch from Phil Brown. East last goal was scored by Kriss Leslie, it again was an excellent touch to fool the port keeper and a first goal ever for himself at the club.

Excellent performances all round. Emmet Carlin and Mark Bailie when given their chance to cross the ball were outstanding on the wings. Alan Russell and Phil Brown were inspirational in midfield and given their chance, beat players an delivered accurate pass’s. Daril Hutton and David Blair were solid as rocks in easts bk line. A mention to Peter Thompson must be given for without him between the posts the score line for east would have been far worse.

This was definitely Easts best performance of the season with 100 percent effort put in by all. A final thanks to those 1stXI players who stayed to make up numbers.
