Match Report

By David Menaul

For the first time in a long time East went into this game with the added pressure of being favourites,East scored after 2 minutes thanks to a well hit short corner by Neal Hermon which hit two posts before it managed to go over the line. However instead of applying more pressure at Portrush we found ourselves coming under pressure. This wasnt due to Portrush playing good hockey,it was more to do with East playing what only can be described at very poor hockey in every department.Through Easts poor play Portrush managed to equalise thanks to a very dubious umpiring decision. An East player won the ball continued to get fouled but to their amazement a short corner was awarded to portrush, result, GOAL.
East got the hump up after this and started to play hockey and got their rewards with Neal Hermon on hand to score(his now customary 2 goals a game). The second half for the majority was mostly East, chances were being created for fun thanks to some great work by Alan Burgess.East scored again when Leon Currie popped up to WHACK the ball home after good work from Alan Burgess and Jonathan Porter added the fourth with a fine effort. However East conceded 2 late goals after, a now annoying umpire give two more dubious decisions which resulted in portrush scoring,This wasnt a true reflection of the game however, even though East weren't playing at their best they were never in danger of losing the game.
