Match Report

By leon

East Antrim travelled to Ballyclare on saturday to play their second Linden Cup match against Parkview, one of the best teams in our league.
Unfortunately it was to prove a somewhat Jekyll and Hyde performance. The match started as expected with Parkview pressing from the start and East defending their lines. Some periods East were able to come out of defence with the ball and exert some pressure on the Parkview defence. Unfortunately it was from one of these attacks that we over committed and Parkview broke at speed to score a well worked goal.
One nil at half time and things didnt look to bad indeed things started quite brightly in the second half with east managing to score an equaliser. This proved too be the turning point in the match as it provoked Parkview into some sublime passing and who almost immediately scored to make it 2-1. Then for the next fifteen minutes East were completely shellshocked and somehow managed to concede another five goals with wave after wave of Parkview players streaming towards our circle.
It was dissapointing to perform so badly in the second half after playing quite well in the first half and although parkview played some inspired hockey we have only ourselves to blame with a lack of fitness, concentration and ability to play simple hockey our downfall.Hopefully we will learn from these mistakes and i look forward to seeing everybody out at training on Tuesday night.
